Mohan Khan, Bangladesh’s last remaining athlete in Olympics 2012, will take the field today when he will sprint in men’s 100-metre pre-qualifying heats at the Olympics Stadium.
Mohan, who was drawn in the first heat, said he is very relaxed before this long cherished event.
‘I am not at all nervous,’ said Mohan. ‘I know I have nothing to lose, but everything to gain. So there is no reason for me to panic,’ said the former BKSP boy, who happens to be the fastest man in Bangladesh.
‘I came here to know where I really stand and I will be doing that. My best timing in an electronic machine was recorded as 11.31 seconds in Asian athletics last year and I am not too sure if I have really improved.’
Mohan was the last minute inclusion in the Bangladesh contingent as he was given a late wildcard. It did not allow him to take the extensive training unlike other athletes.
He completed 100-metre, in last national meet, in 10.60 seconds, but the
athlete said that the timing, taken in a hand watch, has no credibility.
‘I wish I had a chance to see my timing during training, but it was not to be. So I am looking forward to my race in the heats. If I can do better it will help me in future events at least,’ he said.
