The monsoon was welcomed presenting songs and poems glorifying the season on the first day of the Ashar on Saturday.
Artistes in special attires in group and solo performed in the day-long programmes organised by Satyen Sen Shilpi Gosthi at Dhaka University.
The morning session took place at Hakim Chattar where solo artistes and leading troupes presented music, dance and recitation featuring the spirit of monsoon.
Dhrubotaan artistes presented evergreen Tagore song Aji jhoro jhoro mukhoro badolo diney in chorus. Satyen Sen Shiply Gosthi, on the other hand, presented a popular Narul song titled Rumur jhumur rumor jhumur.
A colourful dance recital presented by Nataraj artistes synchronised with the Tagore song Esho nipu boney chhaya bithi toley.
The audience enjoyed a brilliant dance recital
performed by the Spandan artistes with another Tagore song titled Man mor meghero sangi.
Nrityam artistes also performed a beautiful dance recital based on another Tagore song Pagla howai badal diney.
In her melodious voice, Tania Mannan rendered a very popular romantic Tagore song highlighting the beauty of monsoon titled Badolo diner o prothom o kadomo phool.
Abu Bakar Siddique’s stentorian voice modulation while presenting a popular folk number on the same theme titled Asar maishha bhanga pani touched the hearts of the audience.
Solo music presentation was the main attraction in the evening session at Swaparjita Swadhinata.
A huge audience enjoyed the open air programme in which popular singers such as Sunanda Manjuri Mohua, Fakir Shahabuddin, Arif Rahman, Ashikur Rahman, Nabonita Chowdhury, and others presented songs glorifying the season.
Different cultural organisations such as Kranti Shilpi Gosthi, Monglu, Brishty, Anandom, Bhinnodhara and others also presented songs.
The daylong programme was inaugurated by professor emeritus Anisuzzaman in the morning. Dhaka University vice-chancellor professor AAMS Arefin Siddique was, however, the chief guest
