Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody is confident that their new Bangladeshi recruit Mustafizur Rahman will adapt to the forthcoming Indian Premier League in no time.
The former Australian all-rounder also praised the exciting 20-year-old southpaw’s ability to stay calm under pressure, reports Indian Premier League official website.Though Bangladesh were crashed out of the World Twenty20 after four successive Super 10 defeats, still the young seamer snared nine wickets in three matches.
He bamboozled the New Zealand batsmen in their last match, returning 5-22 — the best figures of the tournament.
‘I met Mustafizur during the [Twenty20] World Cup and he seems a good bright young kid. He will be looking forward to learning and to the opportunity,’ the official IPL website quoted Moody as saying on Thursday.
Mustafiz turned heads with his slowers and cutters since bursting onto the scene in the one-day international series against India last June.
The Sunrisers signed him up by outbidding Royal Challengers Bangalore during the IPL players auction on February 6 earlier this year.
‘He has taken to big game cricket quite easily and we have already seen that in the World Cup stage and in the Asia Cup,’ said Moody.
‘I feel he is more than comfortable and happy in big match situations. We have full confidence that he will adapt and adapt quickly,’ he added.
After Mustafiz flew to India on Tuesday, Bangladesh Cricket Board physio Bayzidul Islam has sent words of caution to his Sunrisers counterpart Theo Kapakoulakis.
‘At the moment I don’t have any concern with his bowling,’ said Bayzid. ‘But there are some issues with his throwing. He can throw form 50 yards, but he cannot throw from boundary ropes.
‘He should be able to do this after few more days. But for that he needed to be handled carefully. The amount of workload we give him here it should not be exceeded anyway,’ he added.
The glitzy Indian Premier League gets under way today with Mumbai Indians taking on the Rising Pune Supergiants while Sunrisers will play their first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 12.
