Cybernews, a scholarly online publication, claims that the phone numbers of 487 million WhatsApp users, including information on 3.8 million Bangladeshi users, have been stolen and are being sold on a “well-known” hacker forum.
Supposedly from 2022, the database includes information from 84 different countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Italy, and India.
The hacker who carried out the attack claims that all of the numbers belonged to “active” WhatsApp users.
The report claims that more than 32 million US customers’ and 11.5 million UK members’ phone numbers were stolen along with the database.
It seems that the majority of affected users are from Egypt, with an estimated 45 million people at danger.
Another 35 million Italian user numbers, as well as around 10 million Russian user numbers, and over 6 million Indian user numbers are in the hacker’s possession, he claims.
