Young batsman Mossadek Hossain continued his incredible form in domestic cricket as he hammered an unbeaten double ton against Sylhet in the ongoing National Cricket League on Sunday.
It was his second century in as many matches in the current NCL and fourth consecutive first-class centuries after he hit 119 and 153 runs for Prime Bank South Zone in consecutive matches.Mosaddek now matched the feat of national batsman Mahmudullah, the only other Bangladeshi to score four consecutive first-class centuries. Mahmudullah achieved his record in in the last four matches of 2008-09 season.
Mossaddek’s unbeaten 200, which came off 245 balls with 15 fours and seven sixes, helped him achieve few more records as well.
He has now scored six centuries in a calendar year and three of them are double centuries.
He scored 282 against Chittagong and 250 against Rangpur in the last edition of National Cricket League, making him the first Bangladeshi to score three first-class double centuries in the career.
Rony Talukdar, Marshal Auyb, Nazimuddin and Alok Kapali have two double centuries each.
Mossadek hit the form after he missed 11 matches for Abahani Limited in the Dhaka Premier League for contracting jaundice.
‘It was quite frustrating because I had to remain away from cricket at Dhaka Premier League,’ Mossadek told New Age on Sunday. ‘But the two double hundred that I scored in the last edition of NCL brought my confidence back,’ said Mossadek.
Mossadek added that his appetite for runs grows through his love to bat for longer period of time. ‘Usually I take some time to set in the middle and when my eyes get set I try to cash in as much as possible,’ said the 20-year old former Under-19 batsman.
