Frequents visits of medical representatives of drug companies continue to hamper treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital although the authority had imposed restriction on their entry.
The then hospital director brigadier general Abus Sabur Miya on August 4, 2011 at a meeting made the decision and asked all concerned to impose restriction on the entry of medical representatives so that the doctors to could pay full attention to the patients.
The meeting had decided that the medical representatives would be allowed to visit no doctors who were on duty.
The medical representatives are now frequently making rush at the wards and corridors of the hospital hindering treatment, hospital sources said.
Patients at various wards told New Age that the crowd and chaos of medical representatives increased and on-duty specialist physicians were not paying enough attention to patients.
A ward boy said that medical representatives entered chambers of physicians and made them to hear about the efficacy of certain drugs, even when patients were waiting.
The medical representatives, however, denied the allegation.
Mozammel Hossain, a medical representative, said that medical representatives, also known as medical promotion officers, never wasted any time of physicians and never disturbed doctors in their work.
Medical representatives visit doctors at the hospital only during their off-time, he said, adding that the restriction on their entry to the hospital should be withdrawn.
The hospital director brigadier general Saidur Rahman admitted the fact and said that he would convene a meeting soon to ensure the enforcement of the restriction on movement of medical representatives at the hospital.
