The Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited election will be held on December 29, the club announced on Tuesday. A total of 210 club members are expected to cast their votes to elect a president and 16 directors, who will run the club-turned-limited-company for a two-year period. A schedule was announced for the election, with the date for submission of nomination papers set for December 23. The candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nomination papers by December 25.
This is the second time the club will go for an election after it turned into a limited company in 2011.
The first election was marred by international bickering and legal battles that culminated in several trusted organisers, including long-standing former club president Mosaddek Ali Falu, being sidelined completely.
Sources close to Falu said that he is preparing to contest the election, which is expected to be a tough race this time.
A club member said that current president Obaidul Karim is interested in a second term in office. He is expected to lead a panel comprised of the current set of directors.
