Bangladesh national cricket team’s opening batsman Tamim Iqbal made a surprise move to Mohammedan Sporting Club on Saturday breaking verbal commitment to Abahani Limited.
It was known that the hard hitting batsman Tamim was offered Taka 15 lakh by Abahani which he was not satisfied with.
He made the move to Mohammedan on the assurance of Taka 16 lakh but he was bargaining for Taka 18 lakh, it was learn from a reliable source.
Meanwhile, Abahani officials decided to declare Tamim persona-non-grata after violating the verbal commitment to the club.
However, holders of three consecutive years Abahani did not waste time to repair their line up. They have confirmed deal with another national opener Imrul Kayes on the same day who was supposed to sign for Surjo Torun Club from Gazi Tank Cricketers.
Besides Surjo Torun officials also were annoyed over Imrul Kayes’ move to Abahani despite holding a commitment with them.
On the other hand, a Mohammedan official informed that the club may leave either of Ashraful and Mushfiqur Rahim.
The club considers that Mahmudullah Riyadh may be the most utility player for the club in all departments.
Mohammedan will start signing its players soon after a club meeting scheduled to be held today.
Taking into consideration their fast bowling department may be weak, the club actively thinking of a foreign seaming all-rounder for this season.
The source however did not disclose who they are going to bring in. But it confirmed that the player from the sub-continent.
Earlier, Abahani roped in world’s number one ODI all rounder Shakib Al Hasan and national pace spearhead Mashrafe Bin Mortaza reportedly at the cost of Taka 20 lakh each.
Abahani and Gazi made the ground hot with spreading a huge amount as the clubs like Mohammedan Sporting Club, Biman, Surjo Torun almost remained silent to avoid clash with them.
However the remaining clubs at last joined the party to accomplish the formalities ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr. The spotlight was on Mohammedan as the mighty force of Dhaka cricket had been without premier title for the last eight years. Initially they had no initiative to end their title drought with forming a formidable team but in the last couple of days, their snarl drew the attention.
