The department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University arranged a two-day programme to mark the 65th birth anniversary of
noted late playwright Selim Al Deen.
Muntasir Fantasy, a well known play of Deen was staged on Monday and Kobi by Tarashankar Bandopadhyay was staged on Tuesday at the Zahir Raihan auditorium on the JU campus.Directed by Dr.Yousuf Hasan Arko, the comedy, Muntasir Fantasy, shows how globalisation is used by world leaders to take control of the whole world and is used for their selfish motives.
The story revolves around the titular character Muntasir, a political leader who faces the strange ordeal of an uncontrollable hunger to eat whatever he sees and hears. Muntasir gobbles up tables, chairs, paintings, ribbons and much more to satisfy his insatiable hunger. Later, when he is hospitalised, another caricature character Halaku Khan, a medical surgeon is introduced in the play. At the end, when Halaku Khan cuts opens the belly of Muntasir, many stranger things are discovered from his stomach.
Sazzad Hossain played the role of Muntasir while Sama Bhattacharya, Tisha Akter, Sham-E-Heramon, Foysal Ibn Shams, Ehtasamul Huda, Ahsan Habib, Avik Saha, Mohua Akter and Sahan Md Tamzid played other roles.
Dr. Yousuf Hasan Arko also provided the backdrop music and did the choreography of the play.
Kobi, the other play that was staged, is an adaptation of Tarashankar Bandopadhyay’s novel. This play was directed by Dr Yousuf Hasan Arko as well. The story of the play revolves around the title character Netai, who escaped from home to devote his life to music. As the plot develops, Netai takes shelter in a king’s palace, but is later exiled from there.
Jarin Tasnim Esha, Farzana Haque Jolly, Saima Seraji Sorna, Naznin Mahamud Chowdhry, Priyanka Sarma, Masuda Israt, Joynob Akter, Farzana,Solayman Hossain, Anwar Khan, Rofiqul Islam, Halim Sheikh, Mosharaf, Akil Asraf and Asifurahaman acted in the play.
Both the plays attracted a large number of audience.
