The recent developments in international cricket that can deny Bangladesh from the rights of playing Test cricket is going to be at the back of their minds when they take on Sri Lanka in the two-Test series, said skipper Mushfiqur Rahim. Three cricketing giants – India, Australia and England – put forward the proposal to revamp the ICC, which, if implemented, would relegate Bangladesh to the Intercontinental Cup, depriving them of Test cricket until 2019.
‘Definitely it is a big issue,’ Mushfiq told reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday. ‘We feel bad about it. But it is not in our hand. We are playing the last two-three series either with this problem or that.’
‘If any such thing happens then what is the use of this hard work?’ questioned Mushfiq after the Tigers’ training session. ‘We work hard for this game and after all this, if it happens then it will be sad,’ he said.
All-rounder Sakib al Hasan avoided talks about the issue, but insisted it could be a motivational factor for some players.
‘If anyone can take it as motivation he can always do that,’ said Sakib before adding, ‘Motivation comes from personal opinions. If someone thinks it is a chance to prove themselves then it can work as motivation,’ he added.
Mushfiq said he is looking forward to talk with the international cricketers on the issue as he believed that players should have a say because they are the losers, eventually.
‘I hope very soon we will start talking with the players,’ he said. ‘Of course it [players’ voice] should be taken. Because we play in the field and we are the ones who have to face the consequences if any such decision is taken,’ he added.
