Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim said they should move ahead with a plan for the World Cup 2015 without worrying too much about the departure of head coach Shane Jurgensen.
Mushfiq and his fellow team-mates bade farewell to Jurgensen and fielding coach Corey Richards on Thursday at a simple ceremony at the BCB office on Thursday afternoon.
Jurgensen resigned on April 28 as he was upset with certain comments made by the BCB directors regarding his future.
Corey followed him this week, leaving the BCB devoid of any foreign coaches at any level for the first time in many days.
Earlier, National Cricket Academy head coach Richard McInnes and the Tigers’ strength and conditioning coach David Dwyer also resigned, citing better job offer back in Australia.
The mass resignation of the Australian corps came with the Bangladesh national team less than one year away from their World Cup 2015 campaign in Australia and New Zealand.
‘We had a lot of plans about the World Cup,’ Mushfiq told reporters at the farewell ceremony. ‘But lift does not stop for anyone. You have to move on and we will now try for it. We have to set our plan and move ahead.’
Mushfiq hoped the new coach should be someone who would be able to adapt to the culture of Bangladesh quickly.
‘The most important thing for a coach is to know the players well,’ said Mushfiq. ‘Also he should be a good motivator. This is also important. At this level mental support is more important than the skill development. If we can work in this aspect I think that will help everyone.’
Mushfiq said he did not insist too much on Jurgensen staying after the coach told him that resignation is a decision that he made cautiously and his family has full support for it.
‘I made him a request when he returned from Australia,’ said the wicketkeeper-batsman.
‘But he requested me not to persuade him as he made the decision with the full support of his family. I don’t think it would have been wise asking him to stay on after that. Maybe it can be a blessing in disguise for us.’
