Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim began his individual preparation ahead of the forthcoming home Test series against Sri Lanka as he returned to practice on Saturday after recovering from injury.
Mushfiq, who captained Abahani Limited in the recently concluded Amber Victory Day Twenty20 tournament, sustained a muscle strain in his back during a game against Prime Bank Cricket Club on December 25. He scored a half-century in that game.
The 25-year old did not take any further part in the game and was later ruled out of the competition due to the injury. Later, the Bangladesh Cricket Board physicians advised him to take rest until Saturday before starting his rehab.
Mushfiq responded well to the prescribed medication, prompting him to start his fitness training four days ago. He then went through a two-hour long batting session in the net with the red ball on Saturday.
Mushfiq, who did short sprints and sit-ups after his net session to increase his fitness level, particularly emphasised on leaving the ball outside the off-stump along with trying to work on developing his batting skills. ‘Because it is a Test match I want to get accustomed to it [red ball] quickly,’ said Mushfiq.
‘Everyone was involved in matches but I played my last game on December 25. So I wanted to get back on the field in order to train with the others when they return from vacation,’ he added.
