Tagore’s Birth Anniversary Celebrations
Music, dance and theatre staged at Shilpakala
The second day of the two day programme, celebrating the sesquicentennial birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore, was held on Monday at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Theatre, dance recitals, music renditions and recitation of various writings and songs of Tagore were presented at the programme, as the concluding part of the Dhaka chapter of the year-long joint celebration by India and Bangladesh.
Mohakal Natya Sampradhaya staged the fourteenth show of its twenty-seventh production, ‘Nishimon Bisarjan’, an adaptation from Tagore’s ‘Bisarjan’. Adapted by Anan Zaman and directed by Ashiqur Rahman Leeon, the production maintained the sentiment and storyline of the original play. However, the troupe added some contemporary issues including terrorism and fundamentalism within the original story.
Mir Zahid Hasan, Shahnewaz, M A Azad, Poly Biswas, Iqbal Chowdhury, Shamsul Alam, Syed Ferdous Iqram, Kaniz Fatema Shimi, among others, played central roles in the play.
Artistes of Dibya Sangskritik Kendra presented a dance recital synchronised to the timeless Tagore song ‘Aji shubho dine pitar bhabane’. Six girls and four male dancers, wearing multi-coloured attires, presented the recital choreographed by Dipa Khandakar in Rabindrik Nrittya style, amusing the audience.
Artistes of Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts presented a dance recital synchronised to the Tagore song ‘Aaji dokhino duar khola’, choreographed by Farzana Chowdury Baby. Rewaaj Performers School’s dancer presented a dance recital on the Tagore song ‘Eki labonye purno pran’ choreographed by Munmun Ahmed.
Artistes of Shurer Dhara rendered the Tagore song ‘Oi Mahamanab Ashey’ and artistes of Government Music School rendered ‘Tora jeja bolish bhai’, both in chorus.
Nilotpal Sadhya, Azizur Rahman Tuhin, Mohiuzzaman Moyna, Tanzina Toma, Chhaya Karmakar rendered Tagore songs as solos.
Ananya Laboni and Kazi Arif recited Tagore poems. Habibullah Seraji and Kazi Abu Zafar Siddique recited their own poems on Tagore, at the event.
