Musicians and copyright experts blamed the leading production houses for piracy in a discussion programme; accusing them for the continuous struggles within the industry.
The discussants at the programme, referring to valid documents, accused that the producers’ organisation World Entertainment, responsible to control piracy, is actually involved with piracy through memory card devices.
They also accused the producers mentioning their names and activities for such atrocious activities.
They directly accused the chairman of World Entertainment AKM Arifur Rahman, who is also the owner of the renowned production house Laser Vision, vice chairman Hasan matiur Rahman (Chena Sur), Selim Khan (Sangita), Emdad Sumon (CD Choice), Anowar Hossain (Anupam Recording Media), Monir Hossain (Fahim Music), and others as the culprits in music piracy.
Both musicians and producers admit that piracy is the greatest threat for the music industry of the country.
The programme titled Piracy in the Music of Bangladesh: Crisis and Remedy, held at the Edward M. Kennedy Centre at the MIDAS tower, Dhanmondi in the capital on Saturday, was organised by Bangladesh Copyright and IP Forum and was in association with Bangladesh Musical Band Association and Lyricist, Composer and Singers’ Guild.

Rahman; chairman of BCIPF Kazi Zahin Hasan; chief executive officer of BCIPF Barrister ABM Hamidul Mezbah; noted musicians Maqsood, Suvro Dev, Andrew Kishore, and others talked at the programme.
The musicians also informed that a legal notice has already been sent to World Entertainment from BMBA and LCS Guild. The musicians also cautioned that they will not hesitate to take further legal actions if the production houses do not restrain themselves from piracy.
They also said that there is no need of new law as piracy can be stopped only by means of reinforcing the existing laws; all the industry needs is proper implementation.
