Bangladesh can heave a sigh of relief as pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman did not suffer any severe injury though he was ruled out to participate for Sussex on Sunday.
Mustafiz sustained a shoulder injury during a practice session that restricted him from making his debut in Royal’s London Cup, 50-over cricket tournament.Mustafiz’s injury came as a blow for the Tigers as they are expecting him to be a key part in their forthcoming international assignments.
Mustafiz aggravated his injured left-shoulder that had already made Tigers pay as he missed few games of Asia Cup and ICC World Twenty20 earlier in the year.
However, Sussex said that it was nothing serious as he was sidelined as part of precautionary measures.
‘Mustafizur Rahman misses out of today’s match as a precaution with a slight shoulder niggle,’ Sussex CCC announced through their official Twitter account on Sunday.
Mustafiz had already rocked the county circuit with his match-winning performance on his debut for Sussex in the NatWest Twenty20 Blast last week.
It was learnt Mustafiz injured his shoulder while doing some knocking with the bat and immediately told the management regarding his discomfort.
Sussex asked their in-form pace bowler to take complete rest as they were well aware of his injury history.
Mustafiz’s arrival in Sussex was also delayed as he had to go through a rehabilitation programme to recover from his ankle injury that he sustained during his stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Indian Premier League.
National physio Baizidul Islam said that he is yet to have any complete picture of Mustafiz injury apart from hearing it over phone.
However, he had already communicated to his Sussex counterpart and requested him to allow the pacer to play only when he is hundred per cent fit.
‘We have asked them not to take any chance with him as far as his injury is concerned,’ Bayzid told New Age on Sunday.
‘Even if he is 99 per cent fit we advised not to field him because we are also considering our national interest.
‘He is expected to have a scan on Monday and only after receiving that I can say the severity of his injury.
‘But until that we are unable to say anything,’ he said.
Bayzid also did not rule out the chance of him picking up cold in England that can also make him uncomfortable.
‘Anything can happen so it is not wise to come up with any conclusion,’ said Bayzid.
