Bangladesh’s fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman is unlikely to be released for English side Sussex anytime soon as he started his rehabilitation under Bangladesh Cricket Board medical team on Thursday.
Bangladesh national team physio Bayzidul Islam and trainer Mario Villavarayen rechecked Mustafizur’s physical condition after he returned from his Sathkhira home.Bayzid said Mustafiz still has some minor problems in his ankle and hamstring which needed to be healed completely before he takes the field again.
‘We will take a decision on him when we see his improvement,’ Bayzid told reporters. ‘For the first week I don’t see any possibility of him taking the field.
‘We are working on his hamstring and ankle injuries. He has recovered from the shoulder and side strain.’
In March, Sussex had announced that Mustafizur would be their second overseas player and will participate in the NatWest T20 Blast and the Royal London One-Day Cup.
The left-arm pacer was scheduled to join the Sussex squad at the end of the Indian Premier League but the BCB insisted on him taking a break after the grueling tournament.
Mustafiz played all but one of Hyderabad’s 17 matches and claimed 17 wickets at 6.9 per over, the best economy rate for any bowler who played at least 10 matches in the tournament this season.
Mustafizur will undergo physiotherapy for minimum 30 minutes daily and two hours of fitness work. He will start with a workload of 15 minutes which will increase gradually as he recovers, said Bayzid.
Sussex have played three games in the NatWest T20 Blast so far and are placed second in the South Group points table after two wins.
The team, however, have lost both their Royal London One-Day Cup matches, with the next game on June 12 against Middlesex.
