Nine-day Nandimukh South Asia Theatre Festival will end today at Chittagong Shilpakala Academy with a show of Protarok by Indian troupe Rangasram. Chittagong-based theatre troupe Nandimukh has organised the festival marking its 25th founding anniversary. The festival featured nine plays by local, Indian and Nepalese theatre troupes. Nandimukh’s Tobuo Manush and Urnajal, Indian troupe Mangalik’s Manush Bhut, Indian troupe Sanglap’s Nirashroy, Bot Tala’s The Trial of Mallam Ilya, Padatik Natya Sangsad’s Poramati and Bibartan’s Bisarjan have already been stage on different days at the festival. Written by Koushik Chattapadhyay and directed by Swandip Bhattacharjee, Protarok depicts a Dutch painter’s rise and downfall in the turmoil of the Second World War Swandip Bhattacharja, Ayon Joardar, Ratna Bhattacharia, Prasanta Saha, Rajesh Saha, Pradip Mal, Gokul Mal, Ranjan Moharaj, Tapash Banarjee, and many others acted in the play. ‘The festival was successful and colourful. Everyday we got full-hall audience’, said Abhijit Sengupta, president of Nandimukh.
