Ruling Awami League (AL) presidium member Mohammad Nasim on Monday said that the current political impasse will not be resolved by imposing ban on political rallies and processions. “I think that it is a political problem and it should be resolved politically, not by imposing ban on rallies and processions,” Nasim, a senior AL leader, told reporters prior to joining a discussion in the city. When asked whether an unannounced state of emergency is existing in the country, the former home minister said a certain quarter is propagating misleading information centering the issue.
Earlier, on Sunday Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir had categorically said that no meeting or demonstration will be permitted for one month across the country while AL general secretary and LGRD minister Syed Ashraful Islam said the government has imposed a ban on political programmes including rallies and processions, for one month for the sake of the smooth relief distribution activities in the Cyclone Mahasen stricken area.
At the same time, the AL leader lauded the government’s decision and said “It will be better if the government had imposed the ban in the city for several months.”
“As it is not fair to set fire on vehicles, torch the Holy Quran in the name of movement,” he added. He said any political party can hold rallies, public meetings by taking permission from the government.
He also urged the political parties not to unleash destructive activities in the country in the name of rallies.
He also suggested to the ministers not to be too expressive and say anything that will tarnish the government’s image.
