The Citycell National Basketball Championship starts today with Bangladesh Police meeting Narayanganj in the opening match of the 20-team tournament at the Dhanmondi Basketball Gymnasium.
A total of 16 teams splitting into four groups will play on round robin league basis in the first round. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second round where they will be joined by last year’s champions Bangladesh Army, runners-up Bangladesh Navy, third-placed Bangladesh Rifles and fourth-placed Khulna.
At a press conference held at the BOA auditorium on Monday Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, president of the Bangladesh Basketball Federation, revealed the details of the meet to the press. Citycell chief operating officer David Lee and federation general secretary AK Sarkar were also present on the occasion.
Participating teams:
Group A: Bangladesh Police, Jessore, Rajshahi DSA, Narayanganj.
Group B: Dhaka, Chandpur, Comilla and Bangladesh Air Force.
Group C: Satkhira, Mymensingh, Rangpur and BKSP.
Group D: Narsinghdi, Chittagong, Kushtia and Gazipur.
