Different organisations chalk up elaborate programmes
For the third consecutive year, Bangladesh Film Development Corporation is celebrating National Film Day amid much fanfare and festivity today.
BFDC has chalked out a day-long colourful programme to celebrate the day at the organisation’s premises.
Information minister Hasanul Haque Inu will inaugurate the day-long programme in the morning. Following the inauguration, the corporation officials, film makers, directors, actors, producers and technical crews will walk in a procession to mark the beginning of the festivity, said an official of BFDC.
The celebration programme will also include a day-long fair in front of the office building of BFDC where 32 stalls will display film related products and memorabilia.
At 12pm, prominent film stars of the country will be given a red carpet reception.
A photography exhibition will also be held at the venue, where still photographs representing panoramic journey of the country’s film industry that began with the first talkie Mukh O Mukhosh in 1956 will be displayed.
The achievements and history of the film industry over the last six decades will be addressed in a talk-show titled Amader Chalachitra: Chhoy Doshoker Itihas (Our Film: History of Six Decades) at noon. Anchored by filmmaker Morshedul Islam, film researcher Anupam Hayat and filmmaker Mahiuddin Shaker will speak on the topic.
Another discussion session titled Our Film in International Arena will be held at 3pm where international award-winning filmmaker Motafa Sarwar Farooqi and Kamar Ahmad Simon will speak on the subject.
The day-long celebration will also include screening of classic films like Mukh O Mukhosh (1956) and Achhia (1960). A cultural function has been scheduled in the evening, where noted artistes such as Mousumi, Omar Sunny, Ferdous, Nipun, Shuva, Achol, Zayed, Toma, Ananta, Barsha, Mahi, Bappi, Habib, Arefin Rumi, SI Tutul, Tapan Chowdhury, Akhi Alamgir and many others will perform.
Besides, BFDC, other government and private organisations that are proactively celebrating the day include Bangladesh Shilpkala Academy, private television channel Channel i and ATN Bangla.
Drama and Film Department of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, will screen films and a documentary during its three-day programme. The documentary titled Swarup Sandhan, made by Sazzad Hossain and Arfatul Kabir Rizvi, will be screened at the National Theatre Hall at 3pm today. The documentary focuses on the evolution of Bangla films.
At 5pm, the first Bangla talkie Mukh O Mukhosh will be screened, and Tanvir Mokammel’s recent film Jibon Dhuli will be screened on Friday.
ATN Bangla will air all celebration programmes live.
Private television Channel i will also air a special talk-show where information minister Hasanul Haque Inu, Nayak Raj Razzak and filmmaker Chashi Nazrul Islam will speak on diverse aspects related to the film industry. The channel will also broadcast a special music programme featuring yesteryear’s playback songs by noted singers of the country at 11:30am besides screening a popular romantic movie Laal Tip at 3pm.
