The five-day National Rabindra Festival, organised by Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpy Parisad to celebrate the 151st birth anniversary of the Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore, ended on Tuesday at the Sawkat Osman auditorium of Central Public Library.
Besides participating Parishad members, artistes belonging to other troupes also presented Tagore songs, poems and plays at the festival, which included a photography exhibition as well, featuring eminent Tagore singer Kalim Sharafi, at Zainul Gallery at Dhaka University.
On the concluding day prominent and promising singers of the country presented timeless Tagore songs.
Earlier, on Monday, Bulbul Lalatokala Academy staged Tagore’s dance drama ‘Mayar Khela’, directed by Sohel Rahman. The dance drama depicts the greatness of spiritual love over worldly pleasure.
Moreover, timeless Tagore songs such as ‘Sokol janam dhorey’, ‘Elem natun desh-e’, ‘Key bolechhe tomay, badhu’ were rendered by Prantika Sarkar, Sandhya Bhattacharia and Sagorika Jamali, respectively, in solo performances.
Tagore’s popular play ‘Bisarjan’ was staged by Chittagong based troupe Tirjak Natya Dal and directed by Ahmed Iqbal Haidar, on Sunday. The play upholds the fact that killing one’s inner beasts like cruelty, greed and selfishness is true religious devotion, rather than the sacrifice of innocent animals.
Moreover, Anusree Bhattacaria, Dipti Ray, Selina Huda and Saiful Islam presented ‘Amar mukti alloy alloy’, ‘Ogo saotal chhele’, ‘Sokatorey oi kadichhe sokole’ and ‘Tobu mone rekho’, respectively, in solo performances.
