The 8th National Child Art Competition exhibition and prize giving ceremony was held on Sunday at the Sufia Kamal auditorium of the National Museum.
About two hundred children from across the country participated at the competition in three groups at the competition, organised by Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Art School in Tongi.
The artworks of the participants were also on display at the Nalini Kanta Art Gallery of the museum from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the exhibition.
The chief guest was Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky. Other special guests included High Commissioner of the Canadian embassy in Bangladesh Heather Cruden, Ambassador of the Norwegian embassy in Dhaka Ragne Brite Lund, Ambassador of the Swedish embassy in Dhaka Anneli Lindahl Kenny, former Foreign Secretary Farooq Sobhan and Deputy Managing Director of Abdul Monem ltd ASM Mainuddin Monem.
Children aged three to seven participated in group A. Group B featured children aged between eight and 12 years while Group C was for those children who were aged 13 to 16.
The guests handed over the prizes and certificates to the winners: Nafisa Anjum, Muhammad Ullah Mahi and Saptak Bhoumik received respectively the first, second and third prize in group A with all of them originating from Dhaka. Irine from Sylhet, Sandipan Saha from Dhaka and Subha from Narayanganj received the first, second and third prize in group B. In group C, the award winners were Sharif Raina Hasan from Dhaka, and Mahfuzul Haque and Robin Ahmed from Narayanganj.
New Age had the opportunity to speak to Irine who said: ‘It’s a great honour to achieve the first prize at a national competition. The award will always encourage me for better drawing. ’
