The agriculture ministry will organise a three-day national fruit fair beginning on June 16, Department of Agricultural Extension officials said.
The fruit fair is organised in the city in June every year to encourage the production and consumption of chemical-free home-grown fruits, they said.The agriculture minister, Matia Chowdhury, is scheduled to inaugurate the fair to be held on the Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council premises.
Besides, a fruit tree planting fortnight would be observed in June 16-30 at the district and upazila headquarters, DAE officials said.
On the occasion of the national fruit fair, a colourful procession will be brought out on the opening day. It will start at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 9:00am and end at BARC in Farmgate.
National seminar, art and essay competitions for the children, distribution of posters, leaflets, booklets and publication of supplementary in different national dailies will also be organised to mark the occasion.
Various types of local fruits and fruit products including mango, jackfruits, banana, guava, pineapple, litchi, papaya and black berry will be showcased in the fair.
BARC officials told New Age that a total of 37 stalls including 17 government organisations and 20 private agro-processing firms would take part in the fair that will remain open to all from 8:00am to 8:00pm.
