The three-day 32nd National Rabindrasangeet Convention began at the Chhayanaut auditorium on Thursday evening.
Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad has organised the convention comprising an array of events like presentation of Tagore songs, discussion session, Tagore song competition and honouring a Tagore exponent with an award The programme opened with a chorus presentation of an evergreen Tagore number Sundorer bondhon nishthurer haatey jhuchabe k by the artistes of the Parishad.
The dancers of Nritya Nandan presented an energetic group dance with the song Amar mukti aloy aloy. The choreography synchronised with the song having powerful lyrics and melodious composition moved the audience.
Artistes from across the country presented Tagore songs in solo in the evening. Animesh Bijoy Chowdhury from Sylhet rendered the popular song Krishna kali ami tarei boli in his booming voice. Pratik Endo, who is also from Sylhet, received loud applauses from the listeners when he presented Jey raatey mor duyar khuley. Semonty Manjuri from Dhaka, on the other hand was acclaimed by the audience for her soulful performance of Jogoter anando majhe. Dhaka-based artistes Anupan Kumar Pal and Golam Haidar presented Aji proshomi tomarey and Sukhhin nishidin respectively. Abu Sayeed from Dinajpur rendered the timeless song Tomarei koriyachhi on the evening of drizzles.
Earlier, Potuakhali-based seasoned Tagore artiste Nirmal Kumar Dasgupta inaugurated the convention by lighting earthenware lamps. Sohrab Uddin, general secretary of the Parishad, delivered a welcome speech at the programme presided over by Professor Jillur Rahman Siddique. President of Chhayanut Sanjida Khatun and chief of Nritya Nandan Sharmila Bandopadhyay were also present at the programme.
On Friday morning, about 300 Tagore singers from 61 district level branches of the Parishad took part in a competition in two categories—general and adolescent.
