Nature talks on Mamun’s watercolour paintings
Artist Shahanoor Mamun in his first solo show at La Galerie of Allaince Francaise de Dhaka in Dhanmondi presents some beautiful landscape paintings in watercolour. The show titled Jol Bindu displays 54 watercolour paintings featuring the serenity of nature.
Eminent artist Mustafa Monwar, who is also a renowned landscapist, inaugurated the exhibition on August 24.Painting landscapes in watercolour is, indeed, Mamun’s passion, though he is a student of the department of ceramics of Dhaka University.
The exhibition also showcases ten pieces of clay works.
Travelling different parts of the country, Mamun has depicted some unique moments of nature through various series.
His rain series gives detailed portrayal rain on different backdrops with subtle use of colours, which draws the attention of the viewers.
In his Expression of Nature series, Mamun presents the spectacular beauty of rural areas: boats plying on mighty rivers and the beauty of flora and fauna with delicate use of bright colours such as ocean blue and pale purple.
His watercolour painting Krishnochura captures the eyes of the viewers for its subtle use of purple and yellowish shades.
Shahanoor Mamun’s solo also features some quality landscape paintings portraying the heritages of Dhaka and other districts.
His realistic paintings of busy Tanti Bazaar in Old Dhaka, a river port on the river Shitalakkha, rustic life in Narail and others deserve plaudits.
Like many other artists Mamun also believes, ‘Depiction of nature on canvas is best suited to watercolours.’
‘I transport my feelings on nature through my watercolour paintings’, Shahanoor Mamun told New Age.
‘Paintings on display, I hope, will let the visitors know about Mamun’s intimate relation and conversation with nature’, eminent artist Musatfa Monowar, told New Age.
‘Mamun is a very passionate and hardworking artist. He is doing a good job’, Mamun’s teacher Md Robiul Islam said.
The exhibition will end on September 06.
