BKSP rule pool on Day 1
BKSP dominated the pool on the opening day of the BRB Cables National Age Group Swimming Championship at the Mirpur National Swimming Complex on Thursday.
The day was also marked by eight national records. The country’s lone sports education institute ended the day with 19 gold, 19 silvers and nine bronzes followed by Bangladesh Ansar with 14 gold, nine silvers and six bronzes.
Bogra Swimming Centre remained on the third place with one gold, two silvers and three bronzes.
Despite their team remaining on the second position, Jewel Ahmed and Nazma Khatun of Bangladesh Ansar remained on the top by setting up three new records each.
Khadija Khatun and Palash Chowdhury of BKSP were the other record setters on the day with one each.
Jewel Ahmed set up the new record in boys’ 100 meter freestyle timing 00:58.96 seconds breaking the old record 00:58.93 seconds, boys’ 200M individual medley timing 2:23.2 seconds (old 2:24.17 seconds) and 400 M Freestyle timing 04:38.17 seconds (old 04:38.33 seconds)
On the other hand, Nazma Khatun made records in 100 meter backstroke (new – 01:20.77 seconds and old 1:24.26 seconds), 200 meter freestyle (new – 02:32.13 seconds and new 02:37.57 seconds) and 200 meter individual medley (new – 2:55.24 seconds and old – 2:56.11 seconds).
Khadija Khatun timed 05:38.40 minutes to set new record in girls’ 400 meter freestyle breaking old record of 05:39.02 minutes. Palash Chowdhury set record in 100 meter breaststroke timing 01:12.40 minutes breaking old record 1:14.28 minutes.
Earlier, member of parliamentary standing committee on Youth and Sports Mahbub Ara Gini, MP inaugurated the championship.
Senior deputy general manager (marketing) of BRB Cables Limited ATM Shamsul Kabir, vice president of Bangladesh Olympic Association Mizanur Rahman Manu and acting general secretary of Bangladesh Swimming Federation (BSF) Jasim Uddin Khasru were also present among others on the occasion.
