The different genres of Nazrul sangeet were presented through the rendition of some timeless songs of the poet at a programme at the Chhayanaut auditorium on Friday. Chhayanaut organised the programme as a belated observance of the National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 37th death anniversary,
which was on August 27.
The programme began with a chorus presentation of the Nazrul song titled Esho sarod pratey by the artistes of the organisation in fast tempo that portrayed the zeal and enthusiasm of the song created by the rebel poet. Nazrul was a nature loving poet; the beauties of the natural world specially the diversity of seasons had always charmed the poet, which inspired him to create numerous songs narrating the beauty and spirit of mother nature. Such a song is Basanto mukhur aji that depicts the gracefulness of spring was presented by the chorus. Nazrul was a rebellious poet, furious and uncompromising like an approaching storm. Such furiousness of Nazrul stirred the audiences while the chorus presented the song Ke duranto bajao jhorer.
The incredible façade that nature takes on during heavy monsoon rain was painted through the lyric and melody as Swarna Nag – one of the singers – presented Megh medhur baroshay in a solo presentation. Besides, being a poet of rebel and nature, Nazrul was also a poet of love who portrayed love from different perspectives. The melancholic side of romantic love was revealed through the gloomy tone of the song Amar jabar somoy holo dao biday sung by Shairi Rahman Arni. Mohit Khan also presented the beauty of Nazrul’s melancholic song through his presentation of Ami chirotorey chole jabo. Monish Sarkar in his resounding voice presented Parodeshi bodhuya that depicted the pleasant side of love.
A good number of audiences enjoyed the show. Rubel Haque, who is a music student of Chhayanaut, shared with New Age that he really enjoyed the Nazrul songs featuring the beauties of nature.
