The income tax fair drew huge crowd on it second day on Monday as people rushed to submit their tax returns, to seek tax-related information and to get new tax identification numbers hassle-free.
Visitors at Officers’ Club in Dhaka said they got all tax-related services in a convenient way at the fair.
They said at the tax offices they often faced hassles and had to give bribes in getting the services.
Some taxpayers said that they experienced lots of suffering at the National Board of Revenue’s office in submitting tax returns.
The weeklong income tax fair, third of its kind, began in seven divisional headquarters and 11 districts across the country on Sunday to provide income tax-related
services and information to people and inspire them to pay taxes.
On the first day of the fair, the NBR received 6,948 tax-returns, collected Tk 34.88 crore in tax, provided 1,093 new TINs and gave tax-related services to 17,823
visitors, an NBR official said.
Fair organising committee president and NBR member MA Kader Sarker said on Monday that the fair drew more visitors on the second day than the first day.
He hoped that the rest of the days would also draw huge visitors.
Last year the NBR arranged such fair only at the seven divisional headquarters but this year the revenue administration has expanded the fair also to 11 districts.
