NBR collects Tk 800cr in six day
The National Board of Revenue on Saturday set record in providing services to people and receiving income tax returns in six days of the weeklong income tax fairs across the country, according to NBR data.
The fairs which began on Monday end today.
In the first six days, the revenue board surpassed the number of service receivers and income tax returns reached in the weeklong fair in 2012, the data showed.
According to the NBR data, the revenue board provided services to 4.07 lakh people and received returns from 1.02 lakh taxpayers and collected Tk 799.16 crore in income tax in the six days of this year’s fairs.
In 2012, the revenue board collected Tk 839 crore in income tax, received 97,867 returns and provided services to 3.46 lakh people at the fairs held at seven divisional headquarters and 11 district cities.
In this year, the NBR arranged seven-day fairs at seven divisional headquarters, two-day fairs at 54 district cities and one-day fairs at three hilly districts.
The revenue board, for the first time, expanded the income tax fairs, which were organised in 19 districts last year, to all the districts in the country to create awareness among people on the necessity of paying tax and to provide tax-related services.
The tax administration set a target to provide tax-related services to at least 6 lakh people and to collect Tk 1,100 crore in income tax in the tax fairs this year.
Like the previous five days, the fairs on Saturday witnessed rush of visitors.
‘The NBR is getting overwhelming response from the taxpayers as the board is providing all the services such as filling in tax returns forms, submission of tax returns, providing new TINs in a hassle-free way,’ NBR member Md Bashir Uddin Ahmed told New Age.
‘We hope that we will be able to handle huge crowd on Sunday, last day of the fairs, and we are prepared to provide services to them,’ he said.
On Saturday, a total of 89,783 people received services, 23,229 taxpayers submitted their tax returns and the NBR collected Tk 108.33 crore in tax in the fairs, according to the NBR data.
The NBR arranged tax fairs in Dhaka and Chittagong in 2010 for the first time in the country in which 60,512 people took services related to income tax.
In 2010, it collected Tk 113 crore in income tax as 52,544 people submitted income tax returns in the fair.
In 2011, the NBR collected Tk 414.39 crore in income tax from the fairs arranged at seven divisional cities where 62,272 people submitted their income tax returns and 75,120 people received services.
