NBR gets Tk 1,097cr in five days
The ongoing weeklong income tax fair on Saturday, a public holiday, drew a huge crowd at the fair venues across the country including at the Officers’ Club in Dhaka as more than one lakh people visited the fair venues amid drizzle on the day. The visitors received different income tax-related services at the fair venues. More than one lakh people visited the fair venues also on Friday.On Saturday, the National Board of Revenue provided services to 1,02,954 visitors. Of them, 21,039 taxpayers submitted their income tax returns that generated Tk 165.49 crore in revenue for the government, according to NBR statistics.
On the day, the revenue board registered 1,463 people as new taxpayers through enlisting them with electronic taxpayer identification number system while 932 taxpayers re-registered themselves with the system.
In the first five days of the fair that began on Tuesday across the country, the revenue board received Tk 1,097 crore in income tax from 90,739 taxpayers as they submitted their returns at different fair venues.
Till Saturday, as many as 4.50 lakh people received different services in the fair.
Of them, 10,795 people received e-TIN as new taxpayers while 7,742 existing taxpayers upgraded their manual TINs with e-TINs.
Taxpayers expressed their satisfaction over arrangement, discipline and services that are being provided at the fair venues.
They said that despite huge rush at the fair venue at Officer’s Club in Dhaka, they got services from the tax officials in a short time.
Kamal Uddin, a new taxpayer from Jatrabari, told New Age that, he received his e-TIN within one hour.
At the time of going out from the fair venue, he was telling the story of receiving the e-TIN within such a short time to one of his friend over mobile phone.
‘My friend will visit the fair on Sunday,’ he said.
On the fair venues, there are e-TIN registration booths, re-registration booths, e-payment booths, income tax return filing booths, help and inquiry desks to facilitate taxpayers in receiving services.
The fair will continue today at the same venues at the divisional headquarters and some other district headquarters.
The fair remains open for the visitors from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
New Age Barisal correspondent adds: the weeklong income tax fair in Barisal also saw a huge crowed on Saturday.
The fair is being organised at Ashiwini Kumar Hall premises in the city.
Barisal tax zone commissioner Proshanta Kumar Roy said that the visitors were provided with services like issuing e-TIN, receiving income tax return, providing application form for e-TIN, legal advice and general information on income tax at 14 booths at the fair.
Pankaj Gupta, a businessman of the city, said that he completed the tax payment procedures within only two hours without facing any hassle.
