The National Board of Revenue has collected record Tk 1,315.47 crore, surpassing its collection in the last year’s fair, in six days of the weeklong income tax fair across the country, according to NBR statistics. In last year, income tax collection from the weeklong fair was Tk 1,117 crore. The revenue board has also set record by providing services to 5.45 lakh people in six days while in last year the revenue board provided services to 5.10 lakh people, the data showed.
Officials of the revenue board expressed hope that revenue collection from the fair would exceed its target of Tk 1,500 crore today, the last day of the fair, following huge enthusiasm from the taxpayers.
The fair, which will remain open for all from 10:00am to 5:00pm, is set to end today.
They said that taxpayers from different sectors were requesting the revenue board for extending the fair by at least one or two days.
But there is no possibility of extending the fair time, they said.
Every day, more or less than one lakh people visited the fair and received different tax-related services from the tax officials, a revenue board official said.
‘We hope that there will be huge rush at the fair venues on Monday, the closing day of the fair,’ he said.
The revenue board organised the seven-day income tax fair at divisional headquarters that began on Tuesday to provide tax-related services to taxpayers and potential taxpayers.
The four-day fair also took place in district headquarters in the week.
On Sunday, as many as 94,840 people received services from the tax officials at the fair venues.
The revenue board bagged Tk 218.48 crore in income tax on the day from 24,031 taxpayers as they submitted their income tax returns.
It also registered 2,046 people as new taxpayers as they took online taxpayer identification number while 1,456 people replaced their existing manual TINs with e-TINs, the NBR data showed.
In six days, 1,14,770 taxpayers filed their income tax returns at different fair venues and 12,841 people obtained new e-TINs.
On the other hand, 9,198 existing taxpayers upgraded their TINs with e-TINs.
