The National Cricket League is all set to start from December 26 putting to rest all doubts about the much-needed time for the national players to make their
preparations, said a BCB official on Tuesday.
Several options were mooted to make an ideal training schedule for the Tigers, who are set to be busy with their international commitments beginning with the home
series against Sri Lanka from the end of January next year.
Asia Cup will follow after the Sri Lanka series, while the Tigers will start their campaign in the ICC World Twenty20 in March.
‘We are planning to hold the NCL fron December 26,’ said a BCB official asking not to be named.
Earlier, the BCB had planned to hold a competition with three teams to allow the national selectors get a better chance to have a look at the players but had to drop
the idea.
They were even planning to bring the Zimbabwe side for a short series but it was also not possible due to the ongoing
political turmoil in the country.
The idea to host the Bangladesh Cricket League (franchise-based four-day tournament) had to be shelved as no franchises were intrested in participating in the
competition.
Prior to the NCL, a three-match Twenty 20 series will be played between two teams from December 12 as the BCB is planning to keep the probable players of the national
squad busy in the month of December.
The players are free from their club duty after the Dhaka Premier League concluded on November 29.
‘We are planning to hold the Twenty 20 series between two teams,’ Akram Khan, chairman of the BCB cricket operations committee, told New Age on Saturday.
The Board is hoping to play the matches at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on December 12, 14 and 16.
