New Age fell out of contention for a quarterfinal spot at the Frooto BSJA Media Cup Cricket 2013 after losing to Independent by 31 runs at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium on Thursday.
Batting first, Independent piled up a huge total of 114-1 in their stipulated six overs. New Age’s all-out effort to overhaul the target went in vain as they only scored 83-4 and fell to their second consecutive defeat in the competition.
Channel 9, Samokal and Radio Today picked up wins in the day’s other matches to book their places in the quarterfinals.
Channel 9 (107-3) defeated Channel 24 (82-3) by 25 runs, Samokal (69-1) prevailed over Boishakhi TV (64-5) by 4 wickets and Radio Today (62-0) beat Channel i (59-2) by 5 wickets.
New Age will face Bangla Vision in their final group match today.
