The Bangladesh hockey players, representing the Hockey Players’ Welfare Association, is set to boycott all sorts of hockey activities if the current predicament
regarding the player transfer does not go away by August 2.
10 players including national captain Zahid Hossain, national players Rasel Mahmud Jimmy and Sheikh Mohammed Nannu met Ahad Ali Sarker, state minister for youth and sports, at his office on Sunday and stated their plans.
‘The honourable minister heard everything from us and asked us to wait till August 2 for a resolution,’ said former national goalkeeper Rasel Khan Bappi, also the president of the HPWA.
Bappi went on to say that the players will be forced to adopt harsher actions if the crisis still persists on August 2, including shunning the national camp for the forthcoming Asia Cup.
He added that the state minister will soon sit in discussions with the six revolting clubs, who have also stayed away from all hockey activities, before revealing that the players’ body will meet Bangladesh Hockey Federation president, Air Marshal Enamul Bari on August 1.
Meanwhile, in a shocking disclosure, it was learnt that striker Rasel Mahmud Jimmy was threatened to be detained by the Rapid Action Battalion in a text message from an unknown mobile number while five BKSP players also received threats and told to keep mum regarding the player transfer.
