New govt pay scales finalised

The secretary committee to scrutinise of the seventh pay commission report has finalised its recommendations for increasing the maximum salary to Tk 35,000 from the existing Tk 25,000 and the lowest basic to Tk 4,000 from the existing Tk 2,300.
The committee finalised the recommendations at its seventh meeting held at the cabinet division with the cabinet secretary M Abdul Aziz in the chair yesterday.
After the meeting, the cabinet secretary M Abdul Aziz told reporters that the committee would submit its recommendations to the finance minister within a short time for placing it to the cabinet meeting for final approval.
“The committee suggested implementing the recommendations relating to hike in salaries and financial benefits of the government employees from July 1 considering price hike of essentials and resources of the country,” he said.
“We have proposed the ratio of lowest and highest salary as 1: 9.75 though the seventh pay commission proposed 1: 11.25,” he added.
A seven-member secretary committee was formed recently after getting report from the seventh pay commission, which was formed on August 31, 2008 during the last caretaker government for recommending increase in the existing salaries of the government staff.

the recommended scale will increase to Tk 32,750 from existing Tk 19,300, in the third grade the recommended scale will be to Tk 28,600 from existing Tk 16,800, in fourth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 24,850 from existing Tk 15,000, in fifth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 21,230 from existing Tk 13,750, in sixth grade scale the recommended scale will increase to Tk 18,800 from existing Tk 11,000, in seventh grade the recommend scale will increase to Tk 15,900 from existing Tk 9,000, in eighth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 12,750 from existing Tk 7,400, in ninth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 11,500 from existing Tk 6,800, in tenth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 8,300 from existing Tk 5,100, in eleventh grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 6,650 from existing Tk 6,100, in twelfth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 6,150 from existing Tk 3700, in thirteenth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 5,800 from existing Tk 3500, in fourteenth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 5,400 from existing Tk 3300, in fifteenth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 5,200 from existing Tk 3100, in sixteenth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 5000 from existing Tk 3000, in seventeen grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 4,800 from existing Tk 2850, in eighteenth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 4500 from existing Tk 2600, in nineteenth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 4250 from existing Tk 2500 and in the lowest twentieth grade the recommended scale will increase to Tk 4,000 from existing Tk 2,300.
Meeting sources said that the committee has also recommend The commission also recommended extending the retirement age of the government employees to 60 years from the existing 57 as the average life span has gone up in the country.
The committee also recommend providing education allowances to the government employees for maximum two children and formation of a permanent ‘service commission’ to remove anomalies between different cadre services and scales and adjust salaries of government employees from time to time.
Earlier, the Finance Minister said that the proposed new pay scale would be implemented in the coming fiscal year, but it would be executed in phases.
The first National Pay Commission was formed in 1972. Five other Pay Commissions were formed in 1976, 1984, 1989, 1996 and 2004.
