Industries Minister Dilip Barua on Wednesday invited entrep-reneurs from both home and abroad as well as the expatriate Bangladeshis to invest in the country to help create massive employment opportunities.
“The government will provide necessary support to facilitate investment,” he said, calling upon investors to tap the advantage of an investment-friendly environment prevailing in the country. He was addressing the inaugural function of a Swiss-Bangladesh partnership project in the readymade garment sector at a city hotel.
In a separate meeting with Metropolitan Chamber of Com-merce and Industry (MCCI) at his office, the Minister said the government is taking realistic initiatives for industrialisation across the country.
The steps already taken include increasing manpower and modernisation of Bangl-adesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) to improve the quality of local industrial products to the international standard.
“The government will provide all cooperation in protecting the interest of the local industry,” the Minister said adding that there is no alternative to industrialisation to transform the country into a middle-income one.
He said a new industrial policy is in the offing that would give priority to flourish small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across the country.
