Having notched up a majority in the 10th general election held on January 5, the Awami League-led 14-party alliance will form the new cabinet with an at least 40-member council of ministers on Sunday. President Md Abdul Hamid will administer the oath at the Bangabhaban at 3.30pm, military secretary to the President, Maj.-Gen. Fakhruddin Ahmed, told The Independent.
Of the council of ministers, 12 ministers are likely to be inducted from the alliances—seven from Jatiya Party (Ershad), two from Workers Party—Rashed Khan Menon and Fazleh Hossain Badsha, one each from Jatiya Samajtantrick Dal (Inu), Hasanul Haque Inu, Jatiya Party (Manju), Anwar Hossain Manju, and Tarikat Federation Nazibul Huw Maizbhandari.
The prominent among those who are likely to be inducted from the Awami League are former home and telecommunications minister Mohammad Nasim, land and disaster management minister Ameer Hossain Amu, works minister Tofail Ahmed, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid, finance minister AMA Muhith, former home minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, agriculture minister Matia Chowdhury, LGRD minister Syed Ashraful Islam, textile minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, shipping minister Sajahan Khan, former civil aviation minister Lt Col (retd) Faquk Khan, environment minister Dr Hassan Mahmud, foreign minister Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali, communication minister Obaidul Quader, former telecommunications minister Sahara Khatun, former law minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed, railways minister Mujibul Huq, former state minister for liberation war ministry Captain (retd) AB Tajul Islam, home state minister Shamsul Haque Tuku, and advocate Qamrul Islam.
Among the new faces of the ruling party, who are likely to be included into the new cabinet, are finance adviser to Prime Minister, Dr Mashiur Rahman, and former governor of Bangladesh Bank, Dr Farashuddin Ahmed.
Seven Jatiya Party (Ershad) members who are likely to be inducted to the new cabinet are: Anisul Islam Mahmud, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Ziauddin Bablu, GM Quader (technocrat quota), Mujibul Huq Chunnu, Syed Abu Hossain Babla and Salma Islam.
Bangabhaban’s personal division has made all the arrangements for the oath-taking ceremony of the new ministers.
Transport Commissioner of Directorate of Government Transport Pool, Md Eiaz Ahmed, told The Independent that 40 vehicles have been kept in readiness for the new cabinet ministers, as directed by the higher-ups.
“If necessary, we will get more vehicles for the cabinet ministers,” he said.
Cabinet division has already sent 800 invitation letters to the guests of different political parties, excluding BNP and Jamaat-E-islami for the oath-taking ceremony.
