A man allegedly strangled his wife to death three days into their married life at Mohammadpur in the city.
The victim was identified as Shima Akhter, 22, wife of Mohammad Polash and a garment worker. She hails from Muladi of Barisal.
Police recovered the body at 11 am on Tuesday from a house at Katasur of the area.

Police sent the body to the Dhaka Medical College Morgue and the morgue sources said Shima was strangled to death.
Police quoting neighbours said they got married only three days back on Sunday after a lover affair for a year or so and they rented the house the same day.
Earlier, they used to live in two separate adjacent rooms in the area for over a year, police said.
Shima’s next-door-neighbour Shapla said, Tuesday morning Polash locked the house and came out alone. As none of them showed up till the evening they grew suspicious.
At night the neighbours peeped through the tin-shed shanty and found the body lying on the bed, she added.
On information, police reached the spot and recovered the body.
Polash has been on the run since then and his cell phone could not be reached, police said.
