Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday made it clear that the next general elections will be held under an all-party interim government as proposed by her mother. “People are reluctant to see any unelected government in state power anymore. The next elections must be held under the supervision of an all-party interim government,” he said at a street rally at Nimatala Bazar in Sirajdikhan. Joy, also the Information Technology affairs adviser to the Prime Minister, spoke at two street rallies on Dhaka-Mawa highway as part of his two-day tour to the country’s southern region ahead of the next general election.
“The past caretaker government was involved in torture and repression against the political leaders. My mother proposed for an all-party interim government to hold the next election,” he said, adding that people don’t want to see any unelected government in power anymore.
Mentioning the recent telephone conversation of Hasina with the leader of the oppositions Khaleda Zia, Joy said his mother made the phone call to discuss the possible formation of an all-party government with Khaleda.
“My mother also invited her to attend a dinner at Ganabhaban without any condition but everyone saw the way she reacted,” he said.
“The leader of the oppositions even did not honour her own conditions,” Joy said.
In the other rally at Srinagar Bazar, he came hard on the last caretaker government, saying that an unelected government held the state power in the name of caretaker government in 2007.
“We have seen the way they tortured and repressed the political leaders. My mother was put in jail for 11 months on false allegations,” Joy noted.
Pinning hope on the success of the proposed all-party government, he said all elections during the tenure of present government were held in free, fare and credible manner.
Joy embarked on a two-day trip to the country’s southern region as a campaign for the next parliamentary election, which is due by January 24.
