The Press Information Department (PID) issued a late-evening statement on Sunday clarifying home minister’s comment on banning rallies and meetings and saying no ban was imposed on holding of general rallies and meetings. “While inaugurating the Jorarganj Police Station at Mirersarai upazila, the home minister in his speech said that in the backdrop of the cyclone if any political party would announce a programme which might harm public life and property or cause law and order situation or paved the way for any subversive activity, the government would not allow holding of such rallies or meetings for the sake of maintaining law and order” the PID statement said.
“He also explained in hi speech that there was no ban on holding of general rallies and meetings. This is not a ban, rather it is a pre-emptive meausure to ensure peoples lives and properties and there should not be any confusion regarding this,” the statement added.
