Practise sessions could not be arranged for the cricketers participating in the Amber Victory Day Twenty20 tournament that will start today in Sylhet as carrier Biman Bangladesh failed to reach the destination in time, said sources on Saturday. Biman Bangladesh is the official carrier of the tournament that will feature four teams – Abahani Limited, Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, Prime Bank Cricket Club and United Commercial Bank.
The players were expected to reach the Sylhet Osmani International Airport at 1:30pm and scheduled to practise later on in the evening at the Sylhet Divisional Stadium to get some feel of the venue that recently went through large-scale renovation ahead of next year’s ICC World Twenty20.
However, Biman Bangladesh landed two and a half hours late because of heavy fog, much to the disappointment of the cricketers.
‘There is nothing you can when the plane is delayed,’ said a BCB official preferring not to be named.
Meanwhile, the green gallery, known to be one of the major attractions of the Sylhet venue, will not be available for the public during the tournament as works are yet to be completed. The Sylhet Divisional Stadium will host all the matches of the women’s category in the ICC World T20 2014.
