Booking Clerk Murder
No process, no arrest yet
The police have yet to arrest anyone in connection with the killing of a booking clerk that took place at the Kamalapur railway station early Saturday. They are also yet to find any clue.
Booking clerk Israfil Hossain, 60, was found strangled inside the booking office early Saturday. The railway’s senior information officer Shariful Alam said that the assailants had taken away about Tk 15 lakh earned from advance ticket sales. A case was filed with the Kamalapur GRP station.
The police on Sunday said that three railway employees had been under watch and they had interrogated six officials and booking clerks about the matter.
The Kamalapur GRP officer-in-charge, Abdul Majid, said that they were investigating how the assailants had entered the room crossing a wooden door and three collapsible gates. It is difficult for someone to breach such a heightened security. Only railway clerks and officials can go into the area.
The police also collected the close-circuit television camera footage and the call list of Israfil’s mobile.
Soon after the murder, the Government Railway Police set up a three-member committee to investigate the matter.
GRP deputy inspector general Sohrab Hossain suspected that some from among the staff might
have been involved in the murder.
He told New Age on Sunday, ‘We do not have any clue. You had better speak to investigation officer of the case.’
The investigation officer, Rafiqul Islam, Kamalapur GRP subinspector, said that they were investigating the matter. ‘We are not in a position to make any comments now.’
The police have also yet to trace the Tk 15 lakh that had been taken away.
The two other committees, set up by the Bangladesh Railway and the railway ministry, have also any clues to the murder.
The railways minister, Majibul Haque, who visited the place soon after the murder, told reporters that the ministry had set up a committee to investigate the matter.
The railway ministry’s joint secretary Shashi Kumar Singh, head of the committee, could not be reached for comments despite repeated attempts.
Israfil was, meanwhile, buried in his village in Manikganj after two namaz-e-janazas.
