Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim on Tuesday said that there was no time to discuss the election time government within the last four months of the government’s tenure.
“There are only four months remaining for the national elections. Now there is no scope to discuss the election time government within this time. Elections would be held under the interim government.” Nasim made the remarks while speaking at a discussion meeting on the occasion of the 88th birth anniversary of first Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tajuddin Ahmed at Public Library Auditorium in the city.
He further said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is hatching conspiracy to banish democracy.
“There is no alternative to democracy to move the country forward. Democracy is the alternative to democracy,” he observed. About the attack on journalists, he said, “Those who humiliate journalists have to be resisted. Those who tarnish the image of the party, actions have to be taken against them.”
Criticizing the Opposition leader Khaleda Zia, he said, “Khaleda Zia will form the new type of government with the association of those who want to confine women to the houses. It will be a government consisting of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hefazat-e-Islam and corrupts.”
“Khaleda Zia with her sweet words wants to deceive people. Her new type of government is nothing but political stunt. She, in the past, assumed power through commitments but every time she took Bangladesh backwards . Now she is planning to do that again,” Nasim observed.
“She is plotting to run a country without an elected government. But AL will not allow it. Everyone has to be united against any sort of conspiracy of BNP,” he added. About the defeat of AL backed candidates in the city corporation polls, he said, “AL has the mentality to accept defeat in election.
Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said the main opposition BNP would not be able to go to power in the future, if they do not seek apology to the nation for failing to run the country in the past .
“If you (Khaleda) don’t seek apology to the country’s people, they will understand that the opposition leader is misleading them spreading falsehood,” Hanif said this while addressing a discussion organised by Jatiya Sramik League in the city’s Karwan Bazar.
Earlier, the opposition leader Khaleda Zia said if her party voted to power, it would free the administration from corruption and politicisation, make parliament functional, honour the opposition parties, and their views will be given importance in running the House. Rejecting the opposition’s demand for restoration caretaker government system to oversee the next general elections, Hanif, alos a special assistant to the prime minister Sheikh Hasina, said the next general elections would be held as per the country’s chatter. He also said that the present election commission would organise the general elections and all political parties would participate in it.
