Khulna cricket and sports organisers expressed their deep shock at the BCB’s decision to deprive Khulna of hosting any of the Tests or ODIs against Zimbabwe starting on October 26. Zimbabwe national cricket team is due to arrive on October 17 to play three Tests and five one-day international matches against Bangladesh. The first two Tests will be held in Chittagong and the third and final Test will be held in Dhaka in November.
The first three ODIs are scheduled to be held in Dhaka and the next two are to be played in Chittagong.
The BCB’s choice of Chittagong for back-to-back Test matches has already raised some questions as the country has at least three more Test venues in Fatullah, Khulna and Sylhet.
Khulna District Sports Association general secretary Kazi Shamim Ahsan said: ‘Sheikh Abu Nasser Stadium surely deserves to host some games against Zimbabwe. But it seems that the BCB always disfavours Khulna for some unknown reasons.’
Sheikh Sohel, who represents Khulna at the BCB as a member of its board of directors, hoped that the BCB would include Khulna as a venue for the Zimbabwe series.
‘I will try my level best to arrange a match against Zimbabwe at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium,’ he said.
