The education ministry yesterday issued a circular granting six-month maternity leave for teachers and employees of non-government secondary and higher secondary level educational institutions.
According to yesterday’s circular, a teacher or an employee will be entitled to the maternity leave twice in her entire professional life and she will receive full salary and allowances before going on leave.
The maternity leave can be granted on any date the teacher or employee applies for but it has to start before she gives birth.
Managing committees or governing bodies of the institutions will have no authority to reject the leave application or change the date of beginning of the leave.
