The National Sports Council will host a daylong competition for traditional rural sports will be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday with the participation of around 200 athletes from seven divisions. Both male and female athletes will participate in the 11 different traditional sports disciplines like ha-du-du, dariabandha, saat-chara, cockfight, golla-chut, bou-chi, kana machi, ekka-dokka.
‘We picked 30 best male and female athletes from each division for the final competition,’ NSC secretary Ashok Kumar Biswas said during a press-conference on Thursday.
‘The government took a three-year long programme to bring back the glory of traditional sports of the country and this will be the last year of the competition.’
The participants include 15 boys and girls.
Earlier in 2011, government allocated Tk 6.6 crore for three years to run traditional sports competition across the country.
The government spent Tk 2.27 crore in the first year in 146 upzillas of 18 districts while a similar amount was disbursed for 185 upzillas of 23 districts in second year.
