The North South University authorities on Monday announced the opening of ‘NSU Asian British Parliamentary Debate Championship 2011’ at a press conference on their Bashundhara campus in the capital.
After organising the 15th All Asian Debate Championship in 2008, the NSU Debate Club is continuing its legacy in hosting international tournaments and helping debaters from all over the country to develop as debaters, said a press release of the university.
NSU vice-chancellor Hafiz GA Siddiqui chaired the conference, while NSU treasurer Abdus Sattar, NSU Debate Club faculty advisor Ashiqur Rahman and deputy director (VC office) Belal Ahmed were present on the occasion.
Around 350 foreign participants from 12 countries including India, Pakistan, the Philippines, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Srilanka, Korea, Indonesia, Qatar, Japan will compete in the tournament.
North South University, Independent University of Bangladesh, Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, East West University including some other renowned private and public university will also compete in the tournament as local participants.
The opening ceremony will be held on December 7 and the event will continue till December 11, it added.
