Armed assailants shot dead a video editor of private television channel NTV and hijacked his motorbike in a Taltola alley near the Moghbazar level crossing Friday night. Atiqul Islam Atiq, 35, who was shot, died in Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 10:15pm.
Witnesses said a gang of three armed thugs on a motorbike intercepted Atiq at around 8:30pm near the level crossing and hijacked his motorbike at gun-point while he was going to his office from his house.
When he resisted them, one of the gangsters shot him in the chest and abdomen, leaving him critically injured. The three gangsters fled the scene along with his motorbike.
The local people, on hearing the gunshots, rushed to the scene and took Atiq to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
