The prices of vegetables and egg increased in the city’s kitchen markets over the week ending Friday due to supply shortage. Traders said that the prices of some vegetables increased in the market due to off-season supply shortage while increasing demand pushed up the price of egg. The prices of green papaya, cucumber, carrot and tomatoes increased by Tk 10 a kg and the items were selling at Tk 40 a kg, Tk 40 a kg, Tk 50 a kg and Tk 45 a kg respectively on Friday.
Nur Islam, a trader at Shantinagar kitchen market, told New Age that the prices of papaya, cucumber, carrot and tomatoes increased due to off-seasonal supply shortage.
The prices of other vegetables remained stable.
Aubergine was retailing at Tk 30-Tk 40 a kg, bitter gourd at Tk 30 a kg and okra at Tk 40 a kg, on Friday.
Green chilli price remained unchanged and the item was retailing at Tk 60 a kg on the day.
The price of egg increased by Tk 4 a hali (four pieces) and was selling at Tk 28 a hali over the week.
Prices of onion maintained an upward trend and the item was selling at Tk 35 a kg over the week while the imported onion was retailing at Tk 25-Tk 28 a kg.
The price of potato remained unchanged and the item was retailing at Tk 18 a kg on Friday.
The price of broiler decreased by Tk 10 a kg and the item was selling at Tk 140-Tk 150 a kg on Friday.
The prices of mutton and beef remained stable over the week.
Mutton was selling at Tk 420-Tk 450 a kg while beef was selling at Tk 270-Tk 280 a kg.
The prices of palm oil and super palm oil remained unchanged and were selling at Tk 77-Tk 82 a litre and Tk 84-Tk 85 litre respectively over the week.
The price of unpacked soyabean oil was retailing at Tk 114-Tk 117 a kg on Friday.
The price of bottled soyabean oil remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 560-Tk 575 a five-litre container.
Sugar price remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 48-Tk 50 a kg.
Garlic price remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 75 a kg on Friday.
The price of ginger remained high and the imported ginger was selling at Tk 220 a kg while the local one was retailing at Tk 160 a kg on Friday.
Fish prices also remained stable over the week.
Rohita was selling at Tk 180-Tk 300 a kg on Friday, pangas at Tk 120-Tk 150 a kg and tilapia at Tk 150-Tk 180 a kg, depending on their size and quality.
The prices of rice decreased a bit over the week.
The fine varieties of miniket were selling at Tk 48-Tk 50 a kg while the coarse varieties were retailing at Tk 44-Tk 46 a kg on the day.
The fine varieties of BR-28 were selling at Tk 42-Tk 44 a kg and the coarse varieties of parija were selling at Tk 38-Tk 40 a kg on Friday.
