Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) observed Olympic Day Run-2013, a global program of International Olympic Committee (IOC), in the capital and
divisional and district headquarters on Saturday.
The two-day program of BOA started in the capital with its main event of Olympic Day Run that began at 6:55 am from Ramna National Tennis Complex and concluded at the Bangabandhu National Stadium after passing through Matsya Bhaban, Kodom Foara, Shikkha Bhaban, Secretariat and Zero point.
Youth and Sports secretary Nur Mohammad inaugurated the run at the Ramna National Tennis Complex releasing colorful balloons amid huge enthusiasm of several thousand sports lovers.
BOA Acting President Harun-ur-Rashid and the representative of sponsoring organizations Nurul Fazal Bulbul also spoke on the occasion, attended by BOA Acting Secretary General Ashiqur Rahman Miku, Chairman of the Olympic Day Committee Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Mamun and the Country Manager of the meet’s sponsor Coca Cola Debashish Deb were also present.
On completion of the Olympic Day Run 2013, the BOA arranged cultural progamme, different sports competitions for destitute and mentally challenged children, wrestling competition and body building display at the stadium in the morning.
In the afternoon, they arranged painting competition for the school students at the BOA media centre.
On the 2nd and last day of the two-day program on Sunday, the BOA will arrange seminar and discussion meeting to mark the founding anniversary of the IOC as well as to observe the 150th birth anniversary of the Pierre De Coubertin, the pioneer of modern Olympics.
